Our farm, Sippel Family Farm, is a 77 acre farm in Central Ohio. We currently farm produce hay, apples and raise sheep using organic principals, but are not currently certified. We are the home to Ohio’s first sheep dairy and have operated a CSA program for 13 seasons. I have been farming for a third of my life! I did not come from a farming background but my family purchased this farm through conventional lending and we work hard every day to keep things afloat.
We are continuously diversifying our farm to help keep a safety net and reduce perishable products for the direct market. We are always open-minded about trying new things to see how they fit with our current production, like adding the sheep dairy in 2011.
HOW I’VE TOLD MY STORY
I speak occasionally at universities and schools in the area. I have also contributed to panel discussions and presented workshops at several conferences. Unfortunately, my busy farm schedule keeps me from participating in every engagement.
