I’m a third generation farmer/rancher. Currently we raise registered Angus and Hereford cattle, alfalfa and orchard grass hay and horses. In the past, we raised dairy cattle and pigs.
For three generations we have been continuously working to manage our resources holistically; meaning enhancing riparian habitat, improving water efficiency and focusing on optimum production rather than maximum. We strategically graze riparian zones to encourage vegetation that shades the river, provides woody material for beavers and reduces noxious weeds. Additionally, we have water sensors that help us determine timing and rate of application for irrigation purposes through the strategic use of a center pivot, wheel-lines and flood irrigation.
HOW I’VE TOLD MY STORY
I seek to engage in conversations through multiple social media platforms including Twitter, Facebook, G+, Quora, Triber and my blog. Additionally, I’ve participated in Huffington Post Live panels, 140tc conferences in San Francisco, and USFRA Food Dialogue panels. I’ve also been a guest blogger throughout outlets outside of agriculture.
