STORY

My husband, Bart, is a 5th generation farmer and 3rd generation to raise turkeys. However, I did not grow up on a farm. We live on a turkey farm in central Iowa where we raise our two little boys and over 100,000 turkeys annually.

CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENT

When we built our turkey barns in 2009, we used the best building design possible to provide just the right amount of ventilation for the birds while being very energy efficient.
Bart treats every flock as an opportunity to do better than the last time. He continually monitors data to help us raise the biggest, healthiest birds possible using the fewest resources.

HOW I’VE TOLD MY STORY

When we started farming, I learned so many truly interesting things that I wanted to share with others.  I started my blog, On the Banks of Squaw Creek, in 2009 as a way of giving others a glimpse into the world of a turkey farmer.  Now, as a volunteer for CommonGround, I continue to use my blog and Facebook page to connect with women who don’t have a direct link to a farm.
