The 16th meeting of the Conference of the Parties (COP) to the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) will convene in October – November 2024.  The 11th Meeting of the Conference of the Parties serving as the Meeting of the Parties (MOP) to the Cartagena Protocol on Biosafety (CP-MOP-11) and the fifth MOP to the Nagoya Protocol on Access to Genetic Resources and the Fair and Equitable Sharing of the Benefits Arising from their Utilization (NP-MOP-5) will also convene.

The 2024 UN Climate Change Conference (UNFCCC COP 29) will include the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP 29), the 19th meeting of the COP serving as the Meeting of the Parties to the Kyoto Protocol (CMP 19), and the sixth meeting of the COP serving as the Meeting of the Parties to the Paris Agreement (CMA 6) that will convene to complete the first enhanced transparency framework and the new collective quantified goal on finance, among other matters.

International Biodiesel Day

This day celebrates biofuels, which are a type of fuel manufactured from vegetable oils and can work without causing as much air pollution as fossil fuels. This day aims to raise awareness about the importance of non-fossil fuels as an alternative source to fuel vehicles and machines.

2023 World Pork Expo

June 7-9, 2023

The 2023 World Pork Expo, which is brought to you by the National Pork Producers Council (NPPC), will be held at the Iowa State Fairgrounds in Des Moines, Iowa. The World Pork Expo will feature three days of programming and educational seminars that showcase the latest product and process innovations in the pork industry. Additionally, countless networking opportunities will be available for industry professionals to meet and connect.

State of Loss and Surplus in Meat, Poultry, and Dairy Production

Farmers and ranchers are on the frontlines doing their part in minimizing food waste while producing the food that will nourish a growing population. Join USFRA and our friends at ReFED on April 27 for a special discussion on the state of loss and surplus in meat, poultry, and dairy production. Moderated by ReFED’s Shawn Shepherd, join us to hear insights from Bill Couser, Iowa cattle and grain producer; Sandra Vijn, managing director of Kipster USA; and Tara Vander Dussen, New Mexico dairy farmer, as we explore the causes and impacts of loss on the farm – and innovative solutions helping to make better use of what’s being produced.

UN Climate Change Conference 2022 (UNFCCC COP 27)

November 7-18, 2022

The 27th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP 27) to the UNFCCC will take place in Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt.  

COP 27 was originally expected to take place from 8-20 November 2021. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, COP 26 was rescheduled from November 2020 to November 2021. As a result, COP 27 will take place from 7-18 November 2022.

National Farm Safety and Health Week - Protecting Agriculture's Future

September 18-24, 2022

The 2019 data for the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics indicates that the agricultural sector is still the most dangerous in America with 573 fatalities, or an equivalent of 23.1 deaths per 100,000 workers. Fall harvest time can be one of the busiest and most dangerous seasons of the year for the agriculture industry. For this reason, the third week of September has been recognized as National Farm Safety and Health Week. This annual promotion initiated by the National Safety Council has been proclaimed as such by each sitting U.S. President since Franklin D. Roosevelt in 1944. National Farm Safety and Health Week is led by the National Education Center for Agricultural Safety (NECAS), the agricultural partner of the National Safety Council.

Zero Emissions Day

The purpose of Zero Emissions Day is to offer a preview of what a planet without the release of fossil fuels into the air would look like. A single day to raise awareness on the impact of our daily emissions, which are gases and particles emitted by electricity, agriculture, or transportation.

As we noticed during COVID lockdowns, a global shutdown of human activity allowed air pollution to lower drastically. Each individual needs to make an effort to limit emissions, as they directly affect human health and the environment, causing climate change, air pollution, extreme weather events, and more.

This event will be structured as a Panel featuring 4 Farmer Leaders AND facilitated by USFRA CEO Erin Fitzgerald. The session will start with a short presentation and we will then hear a short story from each panelist before we move into discussion. We will use Polls and Q&A to interact with attendees throughout, and will engage attendees in considering what role they can play to drive action.
